May trip with the girls

Back home now after a fab week with two of my closest friends. To say it was a chilled week is an understatement, we more than relaxed and had such a lovely time. Despite the relaxation we did manage to do a few trips. An evening trip to Saumur was intended to include a meal at Grand Bleu but after some rather strong gins in the square we turned up at 8:45pm to find the evening kitchen had closed 🙃 We headed back to the square and had a lovely really authentic French meal at l’Auberge Saint Pierre. We opted to sit inside and had a great waiter who was practicing his English every time he came over to our table. It didn’t give us the opportunity to practice French but we were glad to be of help to him.

We took the bikes out locally and did a great route that had a stop off at the new brewery in Gizeux and then headed up to Parcay for a drink at the bar there. The planned BBQ turned out to be pizza’s at the bar which are to be recommended. Darren cooks a great pizza so one to recommend on a Wednesday or Sunday evening.

We spent the next day meeting up with friends for a coffee at Lac de Rillé and then cycled down to Courleon in the afternoon for their annual brocante. We were in search of a jigsaw puzzle or two as we had exhausted the collection at La Croix already! We had a great time looking at all the ‘tat’ on sale and came away with not one but two new jigsaws. We also had a drink or two at the bar where we met and chatted with a lot of the locals. The day was finished off with a visit to Langeais and a crepe. Langeais is a beautiful village on the Loire and we always love a visit there. It was good to see it busy and thriving.

Our final day was spent relaxing in the La Croix garden. Full sun and a good book.
