La Croix is located in the Maine et Loire region of France.  It is due south from Le Mans and sits almost central between the Loire Cities of Tours and Angers.  It is less than a 20 minute drive to Saumur and the Loire river.   La Croix is situated between the villages of Courleon and Gizeux on the edge of the Parc Naturel Regionale Loire-Anjou-Touraine.

There are many ways of getting to ‘La Croix’ using road, ferry, air and rail.  The following lists some of the favoured routes used by ourselves but depending on where you are travelling from preferred options will differ.

P&O Ferries:  Dover to Calais (1 1/2 hour crossing) & Hull to Zeebruggee (overnight 14 hour crossing).  Driving time from Calais is approximately 5 hours and from Zeebruggee is 6 1/2 hours.  The French toll roads tend to be empty and although tolls are charged the roads are clear and relatively stress free!
DFDS Ferries:
Newhaven to Dieppe (4 hour crossing) &. Portsmouth to Le Harve (5 1/2 hour crossing or 8 hour overnight).  Driving time from Dieppe is 3 1/2 to 4 hours mainly on motorways once through Rouen; driving time from Le Harve is 4 hours.
Brittany Ferries:
Portsmouth to Caen (3 3/4 hours fast ferry or 6 hour crossing) & Portsmouth to Le Harve (overnight no frills service).  Driving time from Caen is between 2 1/2 and 3 hours and is the closest Channel port to La Croix.  The route is mainly motorway with sections that charge tolls.

Eurotunnel:   Take the Eurotunnel to Calais and you will be in France in 35 minutes.  The driving time from Calais is then 5 hours to La Croix.

Many of the budget airlines offer flights to the area.  Their routes and timetables are always changing with new routes being added all the time.  The closest airports to aim for are:

Tours:  served by
Ryanair with flights from London Stansted all year round and from Dublin from April to October.  Tours airport is a 50 minute drive to La Croix and the all the major car hire firms are represented and car hire can be pre-booked prior to travel.

Poitiers: served by
Ryanair with flights from London Stansted.  Poitiers is a 90 minute drive to La Croix which takes you through some lovely French villages.

Nantes: served by
Ryanair from Manchester, Edinburgh & London Stansted. Easyjet also fly to Nantes from Bristol twice a week from June to end of August.  Nantes airport is approximately 2 hours by car from La Croix.

Paris:  served by many of the budget airlines from most UK airports as well as
Eurostar services from London and Ashford, Kent.  Once in Paris it is a 3 hour drive to La Croix or you can take a high speed train to Tours or Saumur railway stations.
